This is an addition to the June Milestone because so much has changed since the last business meeting.
The bad news is I am still without a comma key. The good news is I have a pen cap right here handy by to reach into the little hole where the comma key would exist. And yes I need to get out to the computer store and by another silly keyboard. We are on that.. right away..
I have changed the way I format the Milestone due to the printing issues that everyone seems to be having. Now it is all in one document with bookmarks instead of hyper links to different documents. So happy printing. To print you must have the focus in this window here. Not the index window over there… then just hit your print menu or right click or how ever you chose to print. Good luck and email me if there are troubles..
A lot has changed since the last Milestone was published. Lady Winifred has sadly had to step down as our Seneschal due to life changes. But the good news is our deputy Seneschal Lady Isabel has stepped up to be our interim Seneschal. And due to that change Isabel cannot be our Herald anymore so Lady Christina Landswalker of Penrose has graciously put her hat into the ring to be our new Herald. In addition to these changes our good Lord Anton feels he can no longer serve our Shire as Arts and Sciences Minister and has resigned. Got all that?
Therefore if you would like to run for the office of Herald, Arts and Sciences Minister or Seneschal please give me a letter of intent by July 8th and you will be on the ballot. You can email it to me or give it to me at any meeting/practice or send it to me in the regular mail. Voting will be August 24th at our usual Sunday Practice at Milbury.
Thank you,
In your service

This is the Quintavia
Milestone, a publication of the
Shire of Quintavia of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. The Milestone is available from Annette Fox, 4 Celtic
Court, Uxbridge, MA 01569. It is not a corporate publication of the Society for
Creative Anachronism, Incorporated, and does not delineate SCA policies.
Unto the
Shire of Quintavia.
It is with heavy heart that I write this letter. Due to circumstances
beyond my control, I must relinquish my office of Seneschal. It has been
a great pleasure and my honor to serve this great Shire and our Kingdom.
I will be leaving this great Kingdom, but all of you and the wonderful memories
we have made will stay with me forever.
My hope is that the future will bring me to play and serve with you all
again. Until then, be well and know I truely love the opportunity and
trust you showed me.
In Humble Service,
Lady Winnifred Willoughby
(MKA: Dawn Hamel)
We started out with the reading of Lady Winnifred’s letter of resignation. We had a vote to accept the letter and it was accepted. Then we talked about the proper channels for officer change.. Letters of intent are called for 2 months before the current officer’s term expires and the letters are published in the Milestone. July 8th was then agreed to as the date for letters of intent for Herald and Seneschal. We will have the vote August 24th.
Alan of Rosley then gave a letter of intent for being Chancellor Minor an office that has been open for a long time. I have the letter published below.
We then talked about the bank account switch over. Winnifred was able to add Isabel to the bank signature card. Tracy our old exchequer had sent a letter to be taken off as a signer on our account and she was removed. Winnifred gave Isabel a similar letter to be taken off as a signer on our account once the new exchequer Lloyd is added. We set a time for all people who are going to be signers on the account to meet in Hudson at the bank at 1:00 on Friday. The signers for the account are Lord Lloyd of Penrose the Shire Exchequer, Lady Isabel of Rosley our interim Seneschal, Lady Eleanor fitzPatrick our web minister, and Lady Eleanor le Brun our Chronicler.
We would also like to do an inventory after all the office changes so we know what we have.
Exchequer Report:
There is an issue with the Shire day board at this past Crown Tourney in Stonemarch. It was not properly advertised as a Shire day board and Shire funds were used to pay for some of the food eaten. This is a no no. It would have been ok if everyone knew it was there and everyone was invited to partake.
The Shire’s account has about $6700 before we pay for the per/head site fees from Boredom War and a few other small Boredom War expenses. We need to pay $216 to the East Kingdom for non-member fees. $144 was made on the pancake breakfast. We still need the receipts for the feast. They have been asked for.. still waiting for them.
The way Shire money is spent is up to the entire Shire, everyone has a vote on when and how money is spent. The vote to spend money is taken before the money is spent. Spending money and then asking the shire to pay for it is not the way it should work. For events the Autocrat of the event and the Exchequer make a budget and they agree on a number. Then the number is put to a vote to the Shire and the Shire then votes if the amount is acceptable.
Lloyd asked for a volunteer for a deputy Exchequer to help out when he is on vacation. Lady Eleanor Fitzpatrick volunteered for that.
Herald Report:
The East Kingdom Herald now requires a real report from the local Heralds. Isabel will work with Christina to get that report in.
Historian Report:
Nothing new to report. Still looking for bios and pictures of people from the shire.
Chatelaine
Report:
Going to get the loaner washed up soon. We need the following items in our loaner kit XXL men’s sizes(about 5’8” tall and about 50” chest), boys 10-12 year range sizes(about 4’ tall and 51’’ chest) and cloaks for all sizes.
Web Mistress:
June Milestone is up. Need a new schedule as soon as possible.
Chronicler:
Articles did not happen for June. I would like something from people in the shire if they have anything. Stories. Drawings. Articles.. What ever you have I’d like it.
Old Business:
Boredom War: The weather was great we got a good turnout. 297 members 15 youths and 87 non members. Everyone was positive about the changes. The fighters liked the new spot on the field. They had more room. The Merchants were split. The early ones liked the spots the later ones felt the were too far away from every thing. But all in all everyone was pleased. There were a few small injuries nothing major. Feast was great and many were happy to have it offered. People stayed too late on Sunday. Closing the site at 4:00 p.m. is too late next year move it closer to 12:00. We made $2861.26 in profits for the event. We made just over $380 for fundraising for the Royal Travel Fund. Can the shire put in the little extra to make it an even $400. Motion was made and a vote was take and yes that is fine. The check will be presented at Vinland Raids II to their Majesties at court in Quintavia’s honor.
Exchequer notes on how things should work. Lloyd read the rule about how to handle missing receipts for Kingdom Events. People that have received money from the Shire and have not turned in the receipts in a timely manor (the next meeting after the event) to account for the money will get a collection notice from the Shire. Les Jeux from last year is missing a receipt. It might be the one for the site fee. We can work that out with the owners. $55 is not accounted for from 12th night. A reimbursement check was written in January and it has not been deposited yet. We need to get that check deposited. Exchequer needs a receipt book.
New Business:
Les Jeux. our horsey event. An incomplete announcement was submitted to East Kingdom to hold the weekend for conflicts. Lady Winnifred can no longer be the autocrat so Duchess Anna and Lady Eleanor Fitzpatrick will do it together. Anything to do with the horses is Eleanor’s problem anything to do with the people part is Duchess Anna’s problem. Meadhbh volunteered to help with the merchants and Christina and Lloyd will help with the tourney. We need to spend $100 for the insurance vouchers ($50 for people and $50 extra for the horse rider to the insurance). We might get a lot of interest so we are looking to see if we can get an East Kingdom new comers booth. Hoping for larger attendance because we do not conflict with events in CT. Estimate 100-120 people. We need volunteers to help at the gate. Lloyd will be there to help at the gate.
We need a new listing of order of precedence for the Shire. This is a job for the Herald.
Adam asked about can we have more awards for doing service to the Shire. We have the Keepers awards. Lets talk about having more keepers awards granted. Maybe have them awarded more often.

Unto the Shire of Quintavia does
Lady Christina Landswalker of Penrose send
greetings,
The reason for this missive is to
inform you that I wish to apply for the Herald's position in the shire. I have held this office three times before
in other Kingdoms. The first time was for
the Kingdom of An Tir, in the Principality of Oeartha, Barony of the Icy Wastes
(Fairbanks, Alaska). I held the
position for 1 year. The second time
was for the Middle Kingdom in the Canton of Coille Stoirmeil (Tomah, WI). I held the position for 2 years. The third time was for the Middle Kingdom in
the Shire of Rokeclif and I held the position for 2 years. I have a fairly good knowledge of composing
devices and emblazoning them. I also
have knowledge on how to pick a correct SCA name. I have been a field herald for many years and I have also been a
court herald for the Principality of Northshield. The last time I held this position was in 1993-1994 so I will be
a bit rusty. Please bear with me as I
get back into things. For those of you
that do not know me I am a transplant from the Principality of Northshield,
Middle Kingdom by way of Meredies for 15 months. My lord husband Lloyd of Penrose and I took an 18 months break
from the SCA before starting to play with the Shire of Quintavia in January
2002. I am a sustaining member and have
been since 1990. I work for the
military so I have traveled to many different Kingdoms. My lord and I started playing in the SCA in
August 1985 in the Kingdom of Ansteorra, we than moved to the Principality of Oeartha,
Middle Kingdom, Principality of Northshield, Kingdom of Meredies and now the
East Kingdom. I have held every office
in the SCA with the exception of Knights Marshal. I have a fairly good knowledge of the SCA and would love to help
the shire by being the Herald.
In Service to the Shire of
Quintavia,

Unto the Shire of Quintavia, does Lady Isabel of Rosley send greetings.
This letter is to inform you that I wish to serve the Shire as your
Seneschal.
I have been in the SCA for 7+ years. We came to the Quintavia in the
spring of 2001, and were previously in Stonemarche. I have held the
position of Herald since 2001; I have attended our Shire demos; my first year
here, I served at Troll for Boredom War 2001; I was deputy autocrat for Boredom
War in 2002; I have given special effort to welcoming newcomers and making them
part of the Quintavian family; I was autocrat for our 12th Night Celebration in
Jan 2003; I was the autocrat for Boredom War 2003 and I have served as Deputy
Seneschal for several months.
I have read the Laws and Policies of the Kingdom of the East, am a sustaining
member and meet all the requirements of office.
If chosen, I will continue to work hard and to represent the Shire with honor
and dignity.
In Service to the Shire of Quintavia and the Kingdom of the East,
Lady Isabel of Rosley
Greetings Unto the Shire of Quintavia, from Lord Alan of
Rosley.
It is my desire to put forth my name for the vacant position
of Chancellor Minor. I have been a
member of the Shire for several years and a member in good standing in the SCA
for 10 years. I have a current
membership card, I receive and read the Pikestaff and the Quintavian Milestone.
I have read the responsibilities for this position and I
will do my best to uphold the office in a manner that befits our fine Shire and
the great Kingdom of the East.
Yours in Service,
Lord Alan of Rosley

Letters of Intent for Arts and Sciences Minister
Unto the Shire of Quintavia,
Greetings
I wish to submit a bid for the
office of Mistress of
Arts & Sciences.
This was the first office I
held, upon becoming a
member of the SCA ten years
ago. Thus I am well aware
of the duties, and
responsibilities.
I have a great desire to
contribute to the Shire and
serve the populace. I humbly
ask to be considered
for this office. It would be a privilege to be
allowed to serve our Shire
as Mistress of Arts &
Sciences.
In Service to Shire and
Kingdom,
Lady Mairgred of LLangarron
